Acupuncture and Qi

Here is the Chinese explanation for how Acupuncture works. The life energy flowing through the body, termed Qi (pronounced "chee"), can be influenced and balanced by stimulating specific points on the body. These points are located along channels of energy, known as meridians. These meridians connect all of our major organs. According to Chinese medical theory, illness arises when the cyclical flow of Qi in the meridians becomes unbalanced or blocked.

Qi is the foundation on which Chinese medicine and acupuncture is based. It is what differentiates us from Western medicine. Old Chinese medical doctors and acupuncturists believe the best doctors are those that practice Qi exercises, such as Taichi and Qi Gong. This is because they can apply the Qi work in the clinic.

Qi is incredible and it is manifested in many ways. Qi serves as driving force for life's functions. In Tai Chi practice, you find your own Qi and feel other's Qi - the life energy.
